SAM'S NIGHTJANUARY 26, 2002 Los Angeles, California
In honor of Sam's 25 years in the business, attended by WSN's Mary Ann.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT SAM
If you ever have the good luck to meet Sam, you will find him very handsome, charming, funny and very gracious!
For him to be able to keep the smile on his face as he talked and laughed with Mary Ann and I says it all!
The Ball was a wonderful tribute to Sam. Peter Jackson sent in a very entertaining and funny film clip.
Mel Gibson also sent in a film clip that had everyone laughing. What a wonderful tribute and night for a very deserving actor!
Here's hoping you stay around for a long, long time Sam!

NEW ZEALAND HERALD ARTICLE
It might look like Sam Neill has forgone the bright lights of Hollywood, what with him being on the telly at the moment explaining the wonders of the cosmos from a paddock near his spread in Queenstown. But no, he was up in Los Angeles the other week (Jan. 26, 2002) for an event in his honour - the annual Qantas Australia Day Ball, held by the Australian American New Zealand Association at the St Regis Hotel in Los Angeles. The event paid tribute to the actor and his 25-year screen career.
Peter Jackson sent in a video tribute - a "tour" of Neill's home in which he was beset by thugs raiding his wine cellar. As Jackson fled the house, clutching a toy plastic dinosaur, the house exploded behind him.
Mel Gibson also brought the house down by staging a fight between his Braveheart action figure, his two Oscars and the award he was presenting to Neill.
Said Gibson: " We've known each other for 25 years - that's a lifetime. And that made me sad because I realised that I was such an old bastard - but I was quickly consoled by the fact that you're older than me."
Other celebs attending included Rachel Griffiths, Anthony Edwards (ER), Jane Seymour, Billy Zane, Kylie Bax, Kerry Fox and Rob Lowe who acted as MC.
